The trauma from his childhood is expressed in-game by displaying flashbacks of his past when he fires his gun. A shape resembling the U.S Flag appears countless times, making the player mistake it for something it is not.

Vol 2. Liberia participated in the U.S’ Emancipation Proclamation efforts. Liberia is meant to mean Liberty. Liberia’s flag is similar to America’s flag, but with only one star. It overlaps with the flag that represents “The Sons of Liberty” that Solidus raises in the end (stripes and a snake).

Solidus comes in contact with Solidus, and his memories of the Liberian Flag (Stripes and a Snake) and past as a child soldier come back. Solidus loses the battle with Raiden and falls from the top of Federal Hall as he takes his last breathe tangled in Stars and Stripes. Then, Raiden is given advice from Snake on how to become Free.
